A New ‘Star Wars’ Film Trilogy Set to Launch with Simon Kinberg at the Helm

Lucasfilm Announces Fresh ‘Star Wars’ Film Trilogy with Simon Kinberg Leading the Way

A brand new ‘Star Wars’ film trilogy is officially in development, with ‘Rebels’ co-creator Simon Kinberg confirmed as writer and co-producer. Disney’s Lucasfilm is behind the ambitious project, which is expected to breathe new life into the beloved sci-fi universe with a completely original storyline, distinct from ‘The Skywalker Saga.’

The new trilogy marks the franchise’s first return to the big screen since the release of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ in 2019. As fans of the series know, this was the ninth and final film in the mainline saga that began in 1977. According to reports, Kinberg will work closely with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy on the production, ensuring the films resonate with fans old and new.

Insiders have revealed that this trilogy will depart from the legacy of the Skywalker family, choosing to explore fresh narratives and new characters, though details on the plot remain under wraps. Given Kinberg’s experience with the franchise’s animated series and his creative background, fans are eagerly anticipating a new perspective in the galaxy far, far away.

In addition to this trilogy, Lucasfilm has several other projects in various stages of development. Notable releases on the horizon include “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” slated for May 2026, as well as a highly anticipated film centered around the ‘Jedi Order’ directed by Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. With a new trilogy in the works and a slate of exciting projects, the future of ‘Star Wars’ looks brighter than ever.
