Azad Jammu and Kashmir Seeks Approval for 5G Testing and Deployment

Azad Jammu and Kashmir has taken a major step toward modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure by formally applying for 5G trials. The initiative will allow mobile operators to test network performance, spectrum utilization, and regulatory compliance before launching full-scale commercial 5G services.

The AJK government has submitted a draft policy to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication to enable testing and development of Fifth Generation (5G) wireless networks in the region. The policy, issued by the Office of the Chief Secretary in Muzaffarabad, outlines the framework for controlled trials and evaluation of next-generation telecom infrastructure.

Officials noted that the draft aligns with earlier communications from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, which has been overseeing 5G planning and regulatory guidelines nationwide. By permitting trial operations, AJK aims to evaluate network reliability, coverage, and technological efficiency in its unique terrain.

The move is expected to benefit both operators and consumers. For telecom companies, 5G trials provide an opportunity to test equipment, optimize spectrum allocation, and ensure compliance with security and operational standards.
