CDA Announces Free Wi-Fi Service in Islamabad: Metro Stations and Parks to Get First Access

CDA Islamabad Wi-Fi

Connectivity for All

Islamabad is set to take a major step toward becoming a digitally inclusive capital as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved plans to provide free public Wi-Fi. Starting with 30 prominent locations, the initiative will enhance access to online services for commuters, families, and professionals alike.

The service will first be available at metro and feeder bus stations, as well as public parks, offering connectivity in areas with heavy public use.

Implementation with NTC

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who chaired the meeting where the decision was finalized, explained that the project will be rolled out in collaboration with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC). While CDA engineers will support setup, NTC will oversee daily operations and maintenance, ensuring smooth functioning.

Ensuring Service Reliability

To guarantee that the initiative remains sustainable in the long term, CDA has also instructed the creation of a marketing and revenue plan. Funds generated through partnerships or advertisements will be reinvested to keep the system updated and reliable for citizens.

Building a Smart Capital

Chairman Randhawa described the project as a milestone toward Islamabad’s transformation into a smart city. “We are working to make Islamabad a ‘Free Wi-Fi City,’ providing citizens with the latest digital facilities and connecting them to modern opportunities,” he said.

Free internet access at public places is expected to support students, freelancers, tourists, and daily commuters, while also positioning Islamabad among global cities that prioritize digital inclusion.
