Google’s Veo 3 to Power AI Video Creation in YouTube Shorts by Summer’s End
YouTube is preparing to introduce one of its most advanced AI tools yet to its rapidly growing short-form video feature, YouTube Shorts. CEO Neal Mohan announced that Veo 3, Google’s high-end video generation model, will be integrated into Shorts later this summer, ushering in a new era of AI-assisted content production.
Unlike the existing Dream Screen tool, which offers only AI-generated backgrounds, Veo 3 enables complete video creation from text or images, opening doors for creators who want fast, customizable video generation capabilities without needing post-production tools.
Currently, Veo 3 outputs only 720p, landscape-formatted videos, which are incompatible with the vertical-first structure of Shorts. Although Mohan did not confirm any enhancements to Veo’s formatting options, vertical output would be essential for practical use within the platform.
Record-Breaking Growth Fuels Innovation
The move comes at a time of explosive growth for YouTube Shorts. The platform now draws 200 billion daily views, reflecting a 186% surge over the past year. That rate of expansion has outpaced even traditional YouTube content in terms of engagement, cementing Shorts as a leading space for creators and brands.
As competition intensifies among short-form platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, YouTube’s push to add advanced AI tools may give it a significant edge.
Access, Pricing Still Under Wraps
At the time of writing, Veo 3 remains part of Google’s AI Ultra plan, a premium offering priced at $250 per month. This subscription allows for a maximum of 125 eight-second videos monthly. Whether this pricing structure will carry over into YouTube Shorts remains to be seen.
Mohan stated that additional details will be released closer to the integration timeline. With a summer launch planned, updates are expected in the near future, potentially shaping the next generation of AI-generated video content on YouTube.
