KP Police Launch Pakistan’s First Dedicated UAV Division for Security Operations

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has established what officials describe as Pakistan’s first dedicated Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Division. The move marks a significant step toward integrating advanced drone technology into modern law enforcement operations across the province.

According to officials, the new division positions KP Police ahead of other provincial forces by formally institutionalizing the use of UAV technology for policing and security support. Unlike previous ad-hoc deployments of drones, the new structure introduces a specialized unit focused solely on managing and operating aerial surveillance systems.

The initiative reflects a broader push toward technology-driven policing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. By creating a centralized UAV division, authorities aim to improve coordination, oversight, and operational efficiency when deploying drones during security and law enforcement activities.

To regulate the operations of the new unit, the Central Police Office has issued detailed Standard Operating Procedures. These guidelines define how UAVs will be deployed, monitored, and coordinated with ground forces during various security missions.

The SOPs are designed to ensure consistent operational control while maintaining accountability in drone usage. Officials say these procedures will help standardize aerial surveillance activities and prevent misuse of the technology.

Following the establishment of the division, ground control stations have also been activated in several districts across the province. This district-level infrastructure allows local authorities to manage UAV operations directly while remaining aligned with centralized policies and strategic oversight.

Law enforcement authorities believe that drones can significantly enhance situational awareness during policing activities. UAVs can assist in surveillance, crowd monitoring, disaster response, and support for search and rescue missions, providing real-time aerial intelligence to security teams.

Officials from KP Police describe the initiative as an important milestone in modernizing law enforcement systems. The use of UAV technology is expected to strengthen operational capabilities and improve the overall effectiveness of security operations in the province.

As drone technology continues to evolve globally, the new UAV Division could serve as a model for other provinces considering similar initiatives. The move highlights the growing role of advanced technology in improving public safety and law enforcement strategies across Pakistan.
