Pakistan’s Voter Base Hits 132.67 Million, Gender Gap Persists

ECP Reports Incremental Growth in Voter Registration

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the country’s registered voters now total 132.67 million, marking an increase of 0.47 million. Of the total, 71.28 million voters are males (53.72%), while 61.39 million (46.28%) are females, highlighting a noticeable gender imbalance.

Breakdown by Region and Province

  • Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT): A total of 1.17 million voters, with males (52.37%) slightly outnumbering females (47.63%).
  • Punjab: Leading with 75.55 million voters, including 40.24 million males and 35.30 million females.
  • Sindh: Registers 27.82 million voters, maintaining a male-to-female ratio of 54.03% to 45.97%.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Home to 22.59 million voters, of which males form 54.38%.
  • Balochistan: Reports the smallest voter base at 5.54 million, with males accounting for 56.01%.

Major Urban Centers

Cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad showcase large voter numbers:

  • Karachi: 7.23 million voters, split as 53.58% males and 46.42% females.
  • Lahore: 7.17 million voters, with males at 52.65% and females at 47.35%.
  • Faisalabad: 5.48 million voters, with a male majority of 53.44%.

Persistent Gender Imbalance

The gender gap in voter registration is evident across all provinces and major cities, with female voter representation significantly lower than males. Efforts to bridge this disparity remain crucial, especially in rural areas where cultural and societal barriers limit female participation.
