P@SHA Backs Government’s $1 Billion AI Plan as Game-Changer for Pakistan’s IT Sector
The Pakistan Software Houses Association has formally endorsed the federal government’s $1 billion artificial intelligence framework, calling it a transformative step for Pakistan’s technology ecosystem. The announcement was made at the inaugural Indus AI Summit 2026, where industry leaders and policymakers gathered to discuss the future of AI-driven growth.
P@SHA described the national AI strategy as pivotal for accelerating innovation, enhancing exports, and positioning Pakistan as a competitive player in emerging technologies. The association emphasized that a coordinated AI roadmap can significantly strengthen the country’s IT services, product development, and global competitiveness.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, attended the HBL P@SHA CXO Networking Dinner as Chief Guest during Indus AI Week. She highlighted the strong export performance of Pakistan’s IT sector, noting that exports surged to $2.2 billion during the first half of FY26, covering July to December 2025.
This represents a 20 percent year-on-year growth, reflecting sustained momentum in the country’s digital services industry. The minister praised the resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of IT companies that continue to expand their global footprint despite economic challenges.
The government’s AI plan is expected to focus on research and development, infrastructure enhancement, talent development, and policy alignment with global standards. Industry stakeholders believe that a structured investment framework will enable startups and established firms to scale AI-based solutions across fintech, healthtech, agriculture, cybersecurity, and e-governance.
P@SHA also underscored the importance of public-private collaboration to ensure effective implementation of the AI strategy. By fostering partnerships between academia, industry, and government, Pakistan can accelerate knowledge transfer and build a sustainable innovation ecosystem.
The Indus AI Summit 2026 served as a platform to align national priorities with industry expectations. Leaders stressed that artificial intelligence is no longer optional but essential for future economic competitiveness.
With IT exports showing consistent growth and a dedicated AI investment roadmap in place, Pakistan’s technology sector appears poised for its next phase of expansion. The endorsement from P@SHA signals strong industry backing for a policy initiative that could redefine the country’s digital transformation journey.
