Baldur’s Gate 3 wins big

Larian, the Belgian developer, was overcome with emotion when he accepted the Game of the Year Award, calling their project a “labor of Love.” The success of the game was further cemented by wins in categories such as Best Performance, for Neil Newbon’s portrayal Astarion, and Best Multiplayer.

Other Notable Winning

Alan Wake 2 also made a good showing. It won awards for Best Game Director, Best Narrative and Best Art Direction. The much-anticipated “The Last of Us TV series” won the award for the Best Adaptation. “Cyberpunk 2077”, meanwhile, was named the Best Ongoing game. The judges voted “Cocoon”, the best independent game, as the winner.

Looking ahead

The Game Awards didn’t just celebrate past achievements, they also gave a glimpse into the future. The announcements of Archetype Entertainment’s sci-fi role-playing game “Exodus”, and Hideo Kojima’s project “OD,” directed by Jordan Peele, were among the highlights. The event also featured a remake of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and previews of Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.

Industry Challenges

The ceremony was criticized for its lack of recognition and focus on the trailers. The ceremony was held against a backdrop of job losses in the gaming industry. This sparked discussions on the importance of supporting and recognizing the artists and developers who make these amazing games come to life.
