Xiaomi Launches First 4K CCTV Camera With Full-Color Night Vision

Xiaomi has started crowdfunding in China for its new Smart Camera 5 Pro Full-Color Night Vision, introducing a security camera designed to maintain color footage even when lighting conditions become difficult.

The new camera is being offered at around $64 during the crowdfunding campaign, while Xiaomi plans to sell it later at a regular retail price of approximately $90.

Xiaomi describes the Smart Camera 5 Pro as its first camera featuring “day and night full-color” capabilities, with the technology focused on providing clearer and more detailed security footage during both daytime and nighttime monitoring.

Traditional affordable security cameras commonly switch to black-and-white infrared footage when surrounding light levels fall. Xiaomi is taking a different approach with the Smart Camera 5 Pro by combining two camera sensors with additional illumination.

The device uses a dual-camera setup consisting of an 8MP primary sensor and a 4MP secondary sensor.

This configuration supports 4K video output, allowing the camera to capture high-resolution security footage while also supporting full-color night vision.

The dual-lens system is designed to improve the camera’s ability to capture visual information in challenging lighting conditions.

Xiaomi has also built a soft light into the camera. The additional illumination can be activated when necessary to help maintain color visibility in darker environments.

The camera offers multiple night-vision modes intended for different monitoring situations.

One of these functions supports human detection, allowing the system to focus on identifying people within the monitored area.

Another mode can trigger monitoring when an event occurs, providing a way to respond to specific activity detected by the camera.

Xiaomi has also included a night-vision setting designed to reduce or avoid visible red light. This can be useful in situations where users want nighttime monitoring without an obvious visible indicator from the camera.

The combination of high-resolution recording, two camera sensors and additional lighting gives the Smart Camera 5 Pro a different approach to nighttime surveillance compared with basic infrared security cameras.

Full-color nighttime footage can provide additional visual details that may not be available in conventional black-and-white infrared recordings.

The 4K capability is another important feature, particularly for users who want sharper security footage and greater detail when reviewing recorded scenes.

The Smart Camera 5 Pro is currently being introduced through crowdfunding in China, where Xiaomi has set the campaign price at around $64.

Once the crowdfunding period ends, the planned regular retail price is approximately $90, making the device more expensive than its promotional campaign price.

The launch adds another product to Xiaomi’s growing smart-home ecosystem and demonstrates the company’s continued focus on connected security devices.

For consumers looking for a home security camera, the Smart Camera 5 Pro combines 4K recording with full-color nighttime monitoring and several specialized detection modes.

Its dual-camera architecture and built-in soft light are central to Xiaomi’s effort to provide color security footage in conditions where conventional cameras would typically switch to monochrome infrared video.
