PTA to Expand Mobile Network Quality Surveys to Lahore, Karachi and Other Cities

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is preparing to expand its mobile network quality assessment activities to Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and other major cities across the country.

The move follows the completion of a recent field assessment in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where the authority examined the performance of telecommunications services at different locations.

According to the planned schedule, similar inspections will be carried out in Lahore and Karachi in the coming days. The surveys will focus on evaluating mobile network coverage, call quality, internet connectivity and the overall performance of cellular services.

The initiative is intended to identify service-related weaknesses and encourage improvements in the quality of mobile telecommunications for consumers.

PTA Teams to Conduct Field Inspections

PTA officials said the upcoming assessments will involve representatives from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications, along with officials from mobile network operators.

The teams will follow a similar inspection approach to the one recently adopted in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. During the previous assessment, senior PTA officials personally visited different locations to examine network performance and evaluate the services available to mobile users.

The involvement of government representatives and cellular companies is expected to help assess network-related challenges and identify areas that require attention.

Focus on Coverage and Internet Performance

The upcoming surveys will examine several important aspects of mobile telecommunications, including signal availability, voice call quality and internet connectivity.

Network performance can vary across different areas, making field inspections important for identifying locations where consumers may experience weak signals, dropped calls or slow internet speeds.

By assessing services directly at different locations, the PTA aims to gain a clearer picture of the challenges faced by mobile users in major urban centres.

More Cities to Be Covered

Following the assessments in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the authority’s plan to extend inspections to Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar indicates a broader effort to monitor telecommunications services in major population centres.

The findings from these surveys could help the regulator and mobile network operators identify areas that need technical improvements and take steps to address service quality concerns.

For consumers, better monitoring may contribute to improved mobile connectivity and more reliable telecommunications services. The planned inspections also highlight the PTA’s continued focus on evaluating network performance beyond routine regulatory assessments.
