Japanese auto giant Honda Motor aims to dominate the electric vehicle (EV) market with its brand new “Honda 0 Series,” launching in 2026. Unveiled at the CES trade show in Las Vegas, this ambitious move marks Honda’s commitment to achieving 100% battery-powered and fuel-cell car sales by 2040.
Playing catch-up with rivals like GM and VW, Honda intends to make up for lost time with this bold initiative. The first models of the 0 Series will hit the roads by 2026, starting in North America and expanding globally. Currently, EVs account for a mere 0.5% of Honda’s global sales, with nearly all models sold in China. With plans to build 2 million EVs annually by 2030 and introduce 30 battery-powered cars by then, the 0 Series represents a crucial step towards electrified dominance.
Intensifying Honda’s commitment, talks with Canadian officials are underway for a potential $13.9 billion EV plant in the country. CEO Toshihiro Mibe revealed the possibility, hinting at Honda’s aggressive expansion plans.
Two captivating concept models, the Saloon sedan and the Space-Hub minivan, offered a glimpse into the 0 Series future. The Saloon, designed to seat four to five passengers, showcased a sleek and modern aesthetic, likely close to the final production version. The spacious Space-Hub, accommodating six or seven individuals, hints at practicality and family-friendliness.
